Flash Player on the iPhone

There is alot of hype about the new Apple iPhone simply because it is stylish and it has an iPod, i have an iPod and a phone, should i get rid of them both for this new style icon when it becomes available in the UK? or should i get myself a proper phone like the Nokia N95 which granted doesnt have the same funky intuitive interface but has alot more features and a bigger camera, 3G, Flash Lite and GPS, besides that Apple also forgot to include the Flash Player for Safari.

Apparently though, according to a Wall Street Journal columnist, Apple will be releasing a software update soon.

At launch, the iPhone version of the Safari browser is missing some plug-ins needed for playing common types of Web videos. The most important of these is the plug-in for Adobe’s Flash technology. Apple says it plans to add that plug-in through an early software update, which I am guessing will occur within the next couple of months. However, a separate program included on the iPhone can play a limited selection of videos from YouTube, and the phone can play videos you purchase from Apple’s iTunes store, and certain videos you create yourself.

No Flash Player anytime soon

CNN Reports that Apple CEO Steve Jobs today that “Adobe’s Flash Player Not Suited for the iphone”.

I’m the same..have the Ipod, have the phone but…should I buy a new phone, such as Nokia95 with more features or just wait till Iphone is released in UK (when it’s supposed to happen by the way…?) ? Apart from the fact I really don’t know how expensive the new Iphone is going to be (I guess it’s going to be about the same price as N95), I really don’t know what’s better - Ipod + older phone or Iphone. How did you decide after all anyway Mr. Guy Watson?

They “forgot” to include Flash player? I’ll have to add that to my list of possible reasons. For the record, Mossberg is either the sole human who is allowed to say that Flash will be included, or he is totally making it up, or he had a dream and mixed that up with reality.

how about the iPhone not having a forward feature in txt messaging. It does not have a copy paste feature. iPhones don’t support multi media messages. No video recorder. What’s up with the ringtones? No Removable memory. Real limited on youtube. Other than that,so far everything else is cool as a fan. It is a highly advanced cellphone and using the phone to make a call is a a snap. Software updates are needed. Im using my Iphone to post this up. Not bad for Internet use. Crisp display.

very disapointed with the iPhone
Bluetooth can only be used to answer the phone.
but you cant exchange
contact info with other divises, cant use the Bluetooth with

the iphone doesnot consct with other divises via bluetooth
wireless headphones, it is just as bad
as not having bluetooth at all.The iPhone canNOT be used in an other country as a
worldphone like all other PDAs.
I feel like I over paid and did not get my moneys worth.
it only has a very limited calculator and no upgrades.
all other pda diveses do way more than the “iphone”
and cost way less!

Very unhappy with the iphone!
I’ve had almost all pda phones, and all of them have a lot more features than the iphone and all other have been less than $640.
1-iphone can’t exchange contact information via bluetooth with other pdas,
2-can’t listen to music with bluetooth headphones,
3-bluetooth can only be used to answer phonecalls (limited)
4-it only has a traditional calculator without even a % key, no upgrades available;
(i use a mortgage calculator, not even one available for the “iphone”)
5-no video camera
6-no zoom in the picture camera
7-no flash for the camera
8-it canNOT be used as a world phone like all other pdas
9-not compatable with microsoft office
10-does not open flash websites, so its not a full internet browser as advertised
(in simple words not good for business)
it is just an expensive and very limited toy

omg iphone has no games on it either!!@! Even w/o flash, safari is a helluvan amazing app on this phone (yes, the one I’m typing on right now) Very very well-designed smart, fast, beautiful apps and a gorgeous screen with a keyboard that reads my mind and I can totally fat finger… It’s pretty much a miracle in my book. Best technology investment of the new century. Somebody for the love of god wake up Microsoft.

There are some things the iPhone doesn’t have like: message forwarding, video/voice recording, flash in safari, and few otherthings. But, i must say that I am enjoying the use of it and I am pretty sure there will be some great updates coming soon!

i’ll agree that the iphone has some shortcomings, but many of the problems you guys are bringing up can be solved with a simple search. Hacktheiphone.com has full tutorials on how to do everything to an iphone . None of it is difficult, make your ringtone anything you want, add games and get links to things that you need. Better calculators or whatever. Besides that, it’s a first gen product. The rule is always to never buy first gen whether its a car or a computer.

not only are there hacked apps that answer many of your complaints, but Apple’s already releasing it’s SDK to programmers for third party software this coming Feb. So quit your bitchin. The iphone has one of the most gorgeous interfaces ever offered on a phone.

Ok truth is flash is needed, but I trust apple to udate that soon(don’t let me down.) when it comes to the bluetooth being used to hear music some of you might like to try this out :make a call then go to the main menu by pressing the center button and playing any song onthe Ipod. If you do this you will notice that you can hear the music without the other person on the line hearing it (let’s hope apple gets on the ball and sets it up so you don’t have to make a call the hear the music over the headset.) As for games and other aplicationsome of you might like to go to the apple web site and check out the aplications you can get without downloading them on your phone (O and by the way you have to do this on your comp to bookmark not the phone beacuse you need flash to get on apple site) other then that I must say makeing the media messaging a feature is standerd should be on the phone even my old motorola had that. You know the one my parents let me playwith when I was 10. And come on what with the camara how hard would it be to add a video feature. For an all in one device they forgot to add video to the list.

By the way this comment was left from my iPhone.

I really like my iPhone… I agree in that having more programs would be great…but i’m sure their coming…and like Collen said it is only their first attempt at making a phone… not bad for their first try…dont’ you think? Oh… also, I live in Texas and took a trip to London and my phone worked just fine on their Orange Network. Anyways, phone can use some improvements…be patient.

In typing this from an iPod touch, I haven’t got an iPhone, but I can tell you that if the nokia e61 is anything to go by, I’d steer well clear of nokia PDAs.. Nokia should stick to making simple phones.. Yeh the features are there, but the thing is so unstable and unintuative I find myself using this iPod to browse Internet, even though my nokia has all my contacts etc. On it

Its half a dozen of one half a dozen of the other, but the iphone screams use me, the nokia screams drown me

Don’t get me wrong the iPhone is a great phone and u like, but it’s not all that great as they said it will be. U don’t have the flash player, no video camera or flash on the camera, no you tube uploads, Bluetooth only for the phone, songs can not be used for ringtones, no games, calculator is bad, and can’t forward messages or copy & paste. Everything that this phone can’t do the phone should have been cheaper. This comment was sent from an iPhone. (Truck’s iPhone)

Everything you sirs are saying is true, but all iphone users must admit that the iphone has made our lives much easier in many many ways,in addition to that, iphones can be easily upgraded and made much better by just typing in some codes in the phone keypad, for example, any sim reciever, changing themes, adding apollo from the installer by just adding some extra sources, you can also add ringtones from the songs on the ipod. -This comment was also sent from the iPhone =P!

I actually found this website searching for a downloadable flash player for my iphone. I just got it yesterday and I’m a little dissappointed reading all of these comments because they’ve answered all of my questions about it. I don’t like the fact that you can send mms messages and lots of other things like the Bluetooth performance. I hope apple comes up with some dang good updates for the iPhone because we all payed too much money for a phone with so many limits.

you can hear music on your blue tooth by going to voice mail, then click on audio. Choose your blue tooth. Go to iPod and play your selection. You should be able to hear your music thru your blue tooth.

it just boils down to if it fits into your life style or not. If you know yourself good enough and do your homework properly you should never have to read these “feedback” reports. It works great for me! It makes me money. Matter of fact it paid for itself in the first week I had it. Those of you hating on the iPhone, let it go. Move on. Buy yourselves a new phone and get on with the rest of your lives.

well i have an iphone and i love it. Just like others, i am leaving this comment using my iphone. I have to agree that for such a great phone, is missing some basic applications like text fwrd, send 1 text to multiple recipients, no media text messages, no flash, camera zoom in but all of this can be fixed on your own. I jalbraked my iphone and i got applications that i can use for my text messages, IM support, camera zoom, many games, including emulators, many calculators, ringtone makes, diferent themes, and many more. This is not just a phonr, is a computer, so im sure apple will continue to update its firware.

I have the iPhone I actually am writing from it now. I am pleased with the iPhone as there are 3 rd party applications for the iPhone with lot of fixes I’m in the uk and have orange pay as you go sim in as it has been unlocked

The iPhone is an amazing piece of kit an with installer (3rd party applications) it becomes alot more than a phone it becomes a part of life

The flash player can be fixed a little bit by running running java on it and then it is amazing and its not just the good screens and all that
its the fact it is an iPod touch and a phone in one with the best Internet out of all the phones

If you have any questions please reply to me on doctor.nokers@hotmail.com

m3h… Just got the iPhone today. Found the same problems as per above and then some. Just been one day eh . Camera sucks. Am typing with it now …. But the most annoying thing is the not being able to read the sim contacts. REAL POS. Again dude before me is right . 1st yen stuff is usually pretty shoddy. But overall so far its not that bad . You can tell its some seriously smart piece of equipment… And in such a tiny package. Mine was a gift though!

first and foremost let us first realize what a phone is, yes its a communications tool. Its not a video camera, its not a professional camera, and its not a computer. No matter how hard you try it will never be those things. The iPhone, I believe is leaps and bounds above the compition merely because it is the closet thing to carrying around a mac book in your pocket that you can get. The UI is unreal and the ease of use is great not to mention a full web browser which will include a flash player in the coming weeks an iPod a beautiful email system a beautiful calender system, etc. It is much more of a tool then anyother cell phone anywhere

I have an iPhone and love it. To my knowledge as of feburary 1, 2008 apple is opening up to allow other programs to be downloaded to the iPhone. This should include flashplayers, etc. Keep your fingers crossed.
