Well…. their is mass hysteria in the Macromedia Developer Community at present, Macromedia who we have grown to love could possibly be aquired by Adobe in the next couple of months. After sifting through a huge variety of opinions on the subject and taking the time for it all to sink in, i have come to the conclusion that this is primarily a huge positive for us as Flash Developers, but im not so sure about other products such as Central, Fireworks, Freehand, Dreamweaver.
IMHO everybody has a right to be scared/concerned, this is a natural reaction resulting from big news that could potentially have a detremental effect on our careers. However, at present, i think it is way too early to tell what will happen, if anything, and until then i believe we should all get back to business as usual, stop trying to guess what the future holds and see what happens before scaring away our customers. Lets look at this on the bright-side until we see changes that lead us to think otherwise.
If bad things happen, Adobe will have to learn how to deal with the wrath of a large, open community of bloggers
One thing, that i do want to mention is the possibility of down-sizing or erradicating certain teams/individuals at Macromedia, let us hope that our friends are not affected by this unfortunate possibility.
My closing statement is simply - “Thank god it wasn’t Microsoft!”.
