Beta - FileSystem JSAPI Extension

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004

Finally got around to getting an extension together worth releasing.
This one is complete with documentation in the help panel (Window >
Help) for you.

Download it from here. (Requires Macromedia Extension Manager 1.6)

I believe those people who have attended my conference presentations in recent months may remember me showing this.

The basic idea is this, a new DLL is copied to your External Libraries configuration folder which provides 23 new JSAPI functions for you to utilise in your none-
commercial jsfl scripts and extensions. Commercial extensions require permission.

Unfortuneatley currently this is only available for Window NT (2000,XP)

I Would appreciate your help in testing it for bugs. Please report any problems you find, and any mistakes in the help files by emailing me.

FlashInTheCan Thus Far

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

So i arrived here in Canada at around 7pm on Friday, headed straight over to the Drake to meet up with the speaker crowd and eat some food, i didnt really eat much, stuck to a plate of fries (i ate on the plane) and rushed down a few Vodka & Limes to catch up with everyone. The Drake opened up downstairs for us where we danced to oldskool music and drunk wayyy too much, i was suprised to see that Brendan Dawes can really swing his pants and Craig Swann also likes to shake his thing. I hung out with Chafic, Chris McGregor, Grant Skinner etc… and it was great fun. We then headed over to the After, After Party at a bar down-town called the Tangerine, they were playing house music, which is my Forte, and the legs were soon twitching. Branden Hall was a little toasted by this time, so i got him a Vodka & Lime to finish him off ;) I had a little jive with Beau Ambur and Brendan Dawes on the dance floor and Chafic made a suprise appearance down their for a few short minutes. We all headed off back to the Westin Harbour Hotel after a long day and a long night.

Saturday i woke around 2pm, whacked the laptop out and did some work on my presentation, hung out in the Lobby with some Media Temple guy’s until like 5pm when all the speakers were taken out to dinner at the Spin Gallery - which turned into the awards show afterwards. The bus journey was quite amusing, 60-80 Flash Geeks stuffed on a kids school bus like sardines(was sitting next to Beau Ambur - funny bloke, and the guy’s from Surfstation and K10K). We ate and drank and ate some more and drank and then the awards show kicked off at like 8pm. The awards show was hosted by some women and Hoss Gifford who, as always, didnt stop swearing - which made for a very entertaining evening. The highlight of the awards show was when Hoss Gifford incorrectly announced the winner of an award - all the guys came up onto the stage to make their acceptance speech and then they were told they didnt actualy win, it was someone else, *LOL*. I met up with Vera, Aaron Adams from Were-here and Jessica Spiegel, with whom i have spoke in the past but never met, which was nice :) I also met Veronique, Ann Marie Cheung, Jason Krogh (havent seen him for like two years), Danny Dura (Mikes right hand man), Glyn Thomas (i see this guy everywhere), Damian Burns and the main man himself Colin Moock. The party finished at ten and then a few peeps headed over to Colins for drinks, snacks, drum n bass and video games. Colin has a really nice house and threw a good party, playing Pacman four player around a tv with Josh Davis, Kevin Lynch, Mike Chambers, Chafic etc… is quite surreal - oh and i suck at that game, Chafic has had way too much practice for my likings. Hung out with Eric Natzke for a short while and had a chat with Andries Odendaal, Vera, Damien Burns and Colin then myself, Josh, Eric and Vera headed back to the hotel so we could wake a-fresh for today.

Offmans -> FlashInTheCan

Thursday, April 1st, 2004

Yup, ive barley recovered from the previous two conferences and now im on a mission once more, this time to Toronto in Canada. Ive heard good things about this place and about the conference i am going to be attending (this is my first time at FlashInTheCan). There are lots of gathering’s & parties already organised so i have a busy couple of days ahead of me, its gonna be a giggle. I will be hosting an Ask The Expert session on Extending Flash MX 2004 at the conference and i have invited Tony MacDonell along to join me, so we can answer twice as many questions in the same amount of time (genius!!). See u there!
