Until i upgrade to a new content management system or have the time to write my own such that i can manage comments and spam, there will be no more comments on articles on flashguru.co.uk, im tired of comment spam, people pretending to be me and posting comments on my behalf, silly flash questions, off topic discussions and flaming. I dont feel i can trust a small minority of my viewers to make sensible discussion and use the comment functionality as it was intended.

Macromedia have released an updater which will patch your current Flash MX 2004 Installation to improve stability, usability and fix bugs. Oh, and i highly recommend you download it, if you have been having speed issues with the Actions Panel, its not slow when typing code anymore, hooorah!!

Macromedia have finally released the official Flash Extensiblity Layer documentation to the public. It is available to download in pdf format here, and you can view it online here. There is also a sample file available; Polystar.jsfl which is the commented sourcecode for the Polystar tool in the Tools Pallette.

FlashParade - Marseille = Cancelled!

FlashParade Marseille is officially dead, for the “second” time. I recieved an email this morning from FlashParade apologising for there mistake, realising that they couldnt really organise a piss-up in a brewery, nevermind a full blown conference in Marseille. And thus the conference is now officially dead and the dates havent been re-scheduled. Oh well, C’est La Vie. (more…)

SciTE|Flash - AS2 Highlighting

Arul Kumaran has released an Actionscript 2 syntax highlighting file for SciTE|Flash. A new version of SciTE|Flash is in development, which will have full support for Actionscript 2, until then this is the next best thing!

Shared Object Reader

Sephiroth has developed a little application with Python, that will decompile .sol files, the files that Flash creates on the client machine, when saving SharedObjects. These are very similar in nature to cookies. The program tells you the class type and the value of each property stored in a SharedObject on your machine. Checkout SOLReader.
